In certain cases, lengthy courses of oral antibiotics may still leave an infection present in the sinuses, deeper tissue, or even the bony structures. Oral antibiotics, when swallowed, may not fully work their way into the bloodstream, limiting the benefit of the prescribed treatment. Intravenous (IV) antibiotics are administrated directly into the bloodstream and can reach the deepest sinus cavities, deep tissue, and even the bony structures where bacteria reside. The choice of IV administration may allow for a stronger, more potent, antibiotic to be prescribed. IV antibiotics may be prescribed alone for infections but are also a helpful complement to many sinus surgeries as these procedures may not remove or effectively resolve bone and tissue infections.

There are important

CHOICES

for a physician to consider when treating chronic infections.

Under the supervision of your Physician, IV antibiotics are given through a catheter (PICC line). A PICC line allows for medication to be safely provided in the comfort of your own home. Most patients feel at ease self-administrating the treatment in just a couple of visits from a home care nurse. The home care nurse remains on - call 24 hours a day. The convenience of care at home and the chance for a cure make an IV program a desired alternative to the on and off again experience of oral antibiotics.

Sinus Solutions offers an opportunity for chronic infection resolution through our specific medication program. Our affiliated physicians continue to provide data regarding IV antibiotics and their success rates with given strains of bacteria. If a Sinus Solutions physician is not available in your area, our coordinators can provide this data to your trusted physician upon their request. If desired, our care counselors can also contact your insurance carrier to determine your coverage and out of pocket expenses.
